Couplings and Clutches
Shaft connector couplings are devices that connect two shafts together so that one shaft can drive the other.
Rigid shaft connector couplings accomplish this goal, but they do not deal with angular and radial misalignment or axial movement that may exist between the shafts. When rigid shaft couplings connect shafts that are mounted in bearing supports or are a component of a gearbox coupling or motor shaft coupler, the misalignment will immediately or eventually cause premature damage to the bearings that support the shafts. The misalignment transmitted through rogid couplings may also cause friction, heat, vibration, and noise.
