Membrane Disc Couplings (Wafer Spring)

Membrane disc couplings are flexible couplings that transmit torque, dampen torsional vibrations, and accommodate misalignment between shafts. They have an all metal, torsionally rigid design that has no moving parts. Flexible discs contained inside the membrane coupling deform to accommodate for misalignment. Membrane disc couplings provide high precision coupling with high RPM characteristics. They require no lubrication and perform well in servo drives and other dynamic systems. For full disc coupling specifications and Dimensional Parametric Search, see individual product listings. Order the membrane disc couplings your application requires, request a quote, or contact Ondrives.US for more information.

High-Performance Membrane Disc Couplings

Ondrives.US is your #1 source for reliable, high-performance shaft couplings. All metal construction gives our single-stage, double-stage, and compact, flexible membrane couplings near-infinite working lives and balanced construction. The zero-backlash design also protects shafts and other rotating parts from excessive operational wear. These features make our shaft couplings ideal for any application requiring high rotational speed and high-level motion integrity, such as machine tools, centrifuges, and dynamometers.

The Right Membrane Coupling for Your Application

Ondrives.US’ durable, flexible membrane couplings, also known as membrane disc couplings or wafer spring couplings, utilize spring steel membranes as their pivotal members. Torque is resolved to simple tensile stresses in opposing segments of the membranes.

We offer membrane disc couplings in three configurations: single stage, double stage, and double stage with a spacer. Compact double disc shaft couplings are also available. Peak torque capabilities and max. bore sizes vary depending on the membrane disc coupling size selected.

Our single- and double-stage wafer spring couplings can be customized to match your specifications. Contact an Ondrives.US application engineer to discuss your performance requirements.

Single Stage Membrane Couplings

Our Single Stage Flexible Membrane Couplings offer the highest torsional rigidity and are designed to be used in pairs or with floating shafts. If used alone they do not provide radial misalignment.
  • 460 Series Membrane Disc Couplings: set screw style, riveted assembly; peak torques up to 100 in-lbs.
  • 660 Series Membrane Disc Couplings: set screw style, bolted assembly; peak torque up to 530 in-lbs.
  • 462 Series Membrane Disc Couplings: clamp style, riveted assembly; peak torque up to 100 in-lbs.
  • 662 Series Membrane Disc Couplings: clamp style, bolted assembly; peak torque up to 530 in-lbs.

Double Stage Membrane Disc Couplings

Double Stage Membrane Disc Couplings provide higher flexibility than single stage models but provide slightly less torsional rigidity.
  • 464 Series Membrane Disc Couplings: set screw style, riveted assembly; peak torque up to 100 in-lbs.
  • 664 Series Membrane Disc Couplings: set screw style, bolted assembly; peak torque up to 530 in-lbs.
  • 466 Series Membrane Disc Couplings: clamp style, riveted assembly; peak torque up to 100 in-lbs.
  • 666 Series Membrane Disc Couplings: clamp style, bolted assembly; peak torque up to 530 in-lbs.

Double Stage Membrane Disc Couplings with Spacers

Our Double Stage Membrane Disc Couplings with Spacers offer the highest axial compensation, with lower torsional rigidity than standard double stage models.
  • 468 Series Membrane Disc Couplings: set screw style, riveted assembly; peak torque up to 100 in-lbs.
  • 668 Series Membrane Disc Couplings: set screw style, bolted assembly; peak torque up to 530 in-lbs.
  • 470 Series Membrane Disc Couplings: clamp style, riveted assembly; peak torque up to 100 in-lbs.
  • 670 Series Membrane Disc Couplings: clamp style, bolted assembly; peak torque up to 530 in-lbs.

Compact Flexible Double Disc Membrane Couplings

Flexible Double Disc Shaft Couplings have high torsional stiffness and absorb parallel and angular misalignment for use with servo motors and stepper motors. They feature a backlash-free, clamp fixing design and provide max. torque up to 25.0Nm and max. speeds up to 10,000 RPM.
