Spur Gears

Spur gears also referred to as straight-cut gears, are one of the industry's most common and cost-effective types of precision gears. They are designed and engineered to mechanically transmit motion and power between two parallel shafts, which rotate in opposite directions.

Ondrives.US has over 60 years of experience manufacturing precision spur gears and offers various pitches, diameters (inch and metric), tooth counts, materials, and hub configurations. We make it easy to find the ideal spur gear for your application. Order your spur gears today, request a quote, or contact Ondrives.US for more information.

The Ondrives.US Advantage: Superior Performance & Durability

By choosing Ondrives.US for your aluminum or stainless steel straight-cut gear needs, we provide the following beneficial advantages.

Operational Qualities of Spur Gears

  • Standard Diametrical Pitch Gears – 16 to 120
  • Precision Quality – Made to American Gear Manufacturers Association – AGMA 8 to 14
  • Standard Materials – 303 Stainless Steel, Anodized Aluminum, or Acetal
  • Available Standards – Bore Diameters, Face Widths, Hub Types
  • Custom Gears – Almost any Material, Bore Diameter, Tooth Count, Face Width, Assembly Method

Spur Gears are designed to mesh with other gears and transmit motion between two parallel shafts in opposite directions. An additional spur gear can be installed between the two (three gears in sequence) for applications where the drive gear and driven gear must rotate in the same direction.

Selecting The Right Spur Gear Ratio for Your Application
The gear ratio produced by two spur gears working in tandem is the ratio between the number of teeth in the two gears; the ratio can also be determined by the ratio of the gears’ pitch diameters. Adding an idler spur gear between the drive gear and the driven gear does not change the ratio, regardless of the number of teeth.

Standard Gears – 16 to 96 Pitch
“Pitch diameter” is the theoretical diameter at which the gears contact each other to transmit motion. The center distance of the shafts of any two gears is half the sum of the two pitch diameters.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss your application. Our application engineers will be happy to help you find a suitable inch or metric spur gear for your needs.
